On 20 July, the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) “Sansad Chalo” march in New Delhi descended into violence after protesters attempted to advance towards Parliament despite prohibitory orders. According to Delhi Police, demonstrators breached multiple barricades, pelted stones, attacked security personnel, and vandalised 15–20 government vehicles, including two police buses. Police responded with tear gas, water cannons, and baton charges to disperse the crowd. Official figures reported 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters injured, while approximately 70 protesters were detained. Protest leaders, however, alleged that police used excessive force against largely peaceful demonstrators, prompting judicial scrutiny and widespread political condemnation. What else?

While thousands of CJP supporters faced tear gas, baton charges, arrests and injuries during the Parliament march, the movement's senior leadership remained largely unharmed, prompting criticism that ordinary protesters bore the greatest risks. Founder Abhijeet Dipke stayed at the protest camp instead of joining the violent frontline, while senior leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Rana were not present where the fiercest clashes with police unfolded. The controversy deepened when spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya was filmed eating a burger during the crackdown, triggering accusations that the leadership was detached from protesters' sacrifices. Despite defending his actions, Dahiya was removed as CJP spokesperson for his "deeply insensitive" conduct. What else?

The Opposition clashed against BJP!

The Indian Opposition mounted a coordinated protest in Parliament in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) movement, accusing the government of suppressing peaceful student-led demonstrations through excessive police force. Congress, along with other INDIA bloc parties, repeatedly disrupted proceedings in both Houses, raised slogans, and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET controversy and the police crackdown. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and several opposition MPs participated in demonstrations outside Parliament, while leaders called for an immediate debate on the issue. Their actions led to repeated adjournments, keeping the CJP protests and demands at the centre of the Monsoon Session's political agenda. What else?

Don't waste our time: CJI on protest violence!!

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Wednesday refused to grant an urgent hearing on a lawyer’s plea seeking Supreme Court intervention over the alleged police lathicharge on student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Advocate Narendra Mishra urged the court to take suo motu cognisance, arguing that the protesters were demanding NEET-UG 2026 reforms and National Testing Agency (NTA) accountability. When the lawyer offered to show videos of the alleged police excesses, the CJI responded, “Don’t waste our time, and don’t waste your time,” adding, “We are not interested in videos; we don’t have time to watch.” The bench, also comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohan, declined the oral mentioning, indicating that any challenge should be pursued through a properly filed petition rather than through an urgent mention before the court. What else?

Mumbai police arrested 400+ pro-CJP protesters!

Mumbai Police have booked more than 400 supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and registered 13 FIRs over the past five days as part of a crackdown on protests held without permission. Demonstrations, driven largely by students and young professionals, demanded Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over alleged examination paper leaks. Despite prohibitory orders, thousands gathered at Shivaji Park, Chembur and Powai. Protesters alleged preventive detentions, phone confiscations, surveillance and overnight questioning, while police maintained the action was necessary to enforce public-order regulations. The protests continue to gain momentum despite the sustained police response. What else?

Sonam Wangchuk has ended his fast!

Sonam Wangchuk ended his fast after stating that the protest had achieved its immediate purpose of drawing nationwide attention to the issues being raised and opening the door for continued dialogue. He said the decision was based on appeals from supporters, civil society groups, and religious leaders who expressed concern for his health. Wangchuk clarified that he was not ending the fast because of, or in exchange for, the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, emphasizing that the movement was never directed against any individual. Instead, he stressed that the campaign would continue through peaceful, democratic means, with public participation, making a sharp de-escalation to this shocking ordeal.

According to Ankit Aggarwal, founder and CEO of Unstop, the decline in salaries is not a crash, but a “structural correction”. He claims that degrees were once considered a sign of potential, but companies are done paying for potential, as they want to pay for ‘Day One’ contribution.

Companies are done paying for candidates with high CGPAs or college tags, as they now want proof of capability. In fact, 94% employers are said to have reportedly moved away from the pedigree-based hiring and are now moving to a skill-based hiring as those are the basis for determining salary packages.

So what to do?

The only answer is to upskill. The time to stay relaxed and reliant on your degree is over, as HRs are hiring based purely on skill instead of great grades. In terms of engineering, candidates need to upskill by learning skills for Data Analysis or Full Stack Development. For MBAs with an interest in helping companies, they must practically learn Management Consulting and Product Management skills. Finally, finance specialists must learn Financial Modelling to target jobs like those of an Investment Banker or Investment Analyst.
